Weddings

Some wedding days simply feel enchanted from the moment you arrive. The kind of day where the energy, the environment, and the people all align to create something unforgettable. That was exactly the case with Allyson and Kendall’s wedding at the stunning Seven Paths Manor in Spring Hope, North Carolina. As their lead photographer, I had the privilege of witnessing not only the beauty of their details and the grandeur of the venue, but also the profound connection they share, one woven from deep friendship, unwavering support, and a love that lights up any room. From their engagement photos, to Allyson’s bridals and then their wedding day, I am so grateful to have been the one to capture their love.

From the quiet moments in the horse barn to the emotional gift-giving with family, this wedding was an example of why I adore my couples: the authenticity, the intentionality, and the power of celebrating a love that has been both hard-won and wholeheartedly embraced.

A Morning of Anticipation and Rain

The wedding day began with the soft, steady rhythm of light rains. While some couples worry about clouds and raindrops, Allyson and Kendall embraced the atmosphere completely. Seven Paths Manor, with its Southern charm, rolling pastures, and white fences stretching into the fog, was the perfect backdrop for a morning filled with anticipation.

Inside the bridal suite, Allyson got ready with with her closest friends, mom and her Nana. She wore a stunning white gown, classic yet modern, flowing and elegant in all the right ways. Kendall matched her in pure style with a tailored white suit, both of them accented with stunning accessories that shimmered even under soft window light. From earrings to shoes, everything was chosen with intention, a perfect balance of sophistication and personality.

As the rain continued, I leaned into the natural light pouring through the windows while pairing it with the clean directional pop of my Godox V1 flash. Using my 50mm and 85mm lenses on the Nikon Z6ii, I captured those early moments in a blend of warmth and editorial crispness. Rainy mornings always bring a softness to skin tones and a sense of intimacy that just can’t be replicated.

A First Look in the Horse Barn

One of the most memorable moments of the day took place in the horse barn at Seven Paths Manor. With the rain lightly tapping the roof, the two of them met for their first look in a setting that felt rustic, romantic, and deeply personal.

Kendall stood waiting, hands trembling slightly, a soft smile slipping through nerves, until Allyson stepped into the barn, her dress trailing behind her. The moment Kendall turned around, everything stilled. Tears, laughter, relief, joy- there is nothing quite like the emotional exhale that happens during a first look!

The barn offered the perfect place for their first look- private, ambient shadows, and just enough open space to allow natural light to spill in. I paired the available light with subtle flash to create depth, enhancing the atmosphere without overpowering it. The result was a stunning blend of editorial elegance and authentic emotion.

This first look wasn’t just a photo moment; it was the grounding force of the day. From here on out, the energy shifted from anticipation to ease. It was as if the universe knew they were ready, because shortly after, the rain stopped.

A Heartfelt Moment With Family

One thing that struck me throughout the day was how intentional Allyson and Kendall were with their loved ones. While weddings often move so fast, they took time for genuine connection.

Before heading out to the ceremony, Allyson shared a deeply emotional moment with her mom and grandma. She gifted them each a personalized purse, embroidered with a photo of her as a child, standing right beside each of them. The reaction was instant and powerful: eyes welled with tears, hands covered mouths, and laughter mixed with the kind of emotion only generations can share.

This moment spoke volumes about the family bonds present that day. As a photographer, these are the scenes that remind me how priceless documentation really is. Weddings aren’t just about the couple, they’re about the people who have loved them, supported them, and helped shape their story.

Storm Clouds Part for the Ceremony

As guests began taking their seats for the ceremony, something remarkable happened: the rain lightened, then faded completely. The clouds parted just enough to reveal soft, diffused natural light, the kind photographers dream about.

Set against Seven Paths Manor’s expansive lawn and classic architecture, the ceremony was breathtaking. The white outfits of both brides stood out beautifully against the lush greenery and rolling countryside. Their décor choices leaned minimal yet elegant, allowing the landscape to shine as a natural centerpiece.

Kendall arrived in a white Rolls Royce, while Allyson made an entrance in a horse and carriage. When Allyson made her entrance, Kendall’s face said everything. Emotion washed over her again, this time surrounded by their closest friends and family. They exchanged vows filled with intention, words that spoke to their journey, their resilience, and the future they’re building together.

Photographically, this part of the day was a dream. Using my 85mm lens, I captured the subtle glances and the way their hands intertwined, while the 50mm allowed me to frame the sweeping landscape behind them.

The ceremony concluded with cheers, joyful tears, and the celebratory walk back up the aisle that every photographer lives for.

A Reception Filled With Celebration

The reception continued the theme of timeless elegance with touches of fun and personality. The décor was soft and warm, with a layout that encouraged movement, connection, and celebration. The couple made a grand entrance, glowing with joy, and the night unfolded with heartfelt toasts, emotional dances, and plenty of laughter.

Capturing reception moments is always an exciting challenge, balancing movement, color, and low-light conditions. With my Godox V1 and dual-lens setup, I documented everything from the fast-paced dance floor to quieter interactions between guests.

There is something uniquely joyful about photographing an LGBTQ+ wedding reception. There’s often this palpable sense of pride, not just in identity, but in the journey that brought everyone together. The room felt electric, full of love and support.

The Importance of LGBTQ+ Wedding Photography

Weddings like Allyson and Kendall’s remind me why inclusive wedding photography matters so deeply. Every couple deserves to see their love celebrated, honored, and reflected in imagery that feels authentic to who they are.

Queer couples often navigate the world differently, sometimes facing judgment, sometimes feeling the need to search harder for affirming vendors. So when they find their people, when they feel safe, seen, and valued, something shifts. The comfort level skyrockets. The real emotion pours out.

My goal as a photographer is not only to create beautiful images but to give every couple a space where they can show up as their full selves. Allyson and Kendall did exactly that, and the result was a wedding day so rich in love that it practically radiated through every photo.

Closing Thoughts

As I packed up my gear at the end of the night—my 50mm, 85mm, Nikon Z6ii, and trusty Godox V1 flash, I felt incredibly grateful to have documented such a meaningful celebration. Allyson and Kendall’s wedding was an elegant, emotional, joy-filled reminder of what a privilege it is to tell love stories.

Their day at Seven Paths Manor wasn’t just beautiful; it was powerful. It was a testament to resilience, devotion, and the freedom to love openly. From the rain-kissed morning to the glowing reception, every moment held weight and intention.

Allyson and Kendall, thank you for trusting me with your story. Your wedding was one I’ll never forget.
